3 Ways to Prevent Losing Your Digital Files

Imagine working on your computer to complete an important project and then losing it due to a sudden power outage.  These kind of events happen every day around the world and prove how dependent we are upon a constant flow of energy for our high tech household goods.  Today’s post will share with you some strategies to prevent losing your work.

1.     Backup your work

It would be a shame to write an epic masterpiece only for it to disappear.  That’s why it’s very smart to press on the “save” button every few minutes or so.  Also, look through the help section on your word processing software.  It might be possible to set up an auto-save feature which will  keep saving your work as you type it.  Finally, every time you complete your work for the day, make sure to create a backup file in a separate location.  You can always e-mail a copy of your project to yourself or use the popular Dropbox program to access your files anywhere.

For a small sum, it’s possible to buy a rectangular backup generator that prevents your computer from shutting down due to a sudden electric failure.  So what happens is that once your power goes out, you get 5-10 minutes to save your files and then turn off your PC in an orderly manner, instead of losing all your work..  These units tend to also contain a surge protection feature, which protects your computer’s sensitive electronic parts.

3.     Frequently print out hard copies

The low tech way of making sure you don’t lose your work is to make printouts of each document as a hard copy.  You can use the HP Laserjet 1022 printer or HP Laserjet 1018 to accomplish this task. In the worst case, you’ll just have to retype your project, but at least you won’t have to do the mental heavy lifting again.

Overall, there are three ways to prevent losing your work.  This includes saving often, buying a backup generator, and printing out hard copies.
