The last thing you want to hear when you go to the doctor is that you have scabies. Immediately, you start to wonder, "How did I get it? Why me?" Scabies is more common than most people realize, and the reason for that is how scabies spreads. Scabies skin transmission is much more common than most people know. Fortunately, there are some things you can do to prevent it from spreading.

First of all, we must answer the question, "What is scabies?" This skin rash is caused by a microscopic mite known as Sarcoptes Scabiei. It feeds on human flesh, burrowing under the skin. The presence of the mite and its eggs causes an allergic reaction that looks like bug bites. However, the actual scabies bite is much too small to be seen.

Since scabies is so tiny, it cannot spread without direct contact. It has no wings, so it cannot fly from person to person. There must be direct, skin to skin contact for it to be transferred. It can also spread through prolonged skin contact with an infected surface.

Now, brief contact is not enough to catch the mite. A handshake generally will not leave you infected. Holding hands will. A kiss on the cheek won't leave you infected. A prolonged hug mite. Briefly sitting on a couch won't be enough to infect you. Carrying infected linens in ungloved hands may.

To prevent the spread of scabies, you have to kill the mite, both on the infected person and in the household. Since it can take a few weeks for scabies symptoms to develop, doctors recommend that everyone in the house get treated at the same time. The mite can live for up to three days without a human host, so you also must disinfect the household. Scabies sulfur treatment works well for this.

If you're wondering how to treat chicken pox, you're in for a bit of bad news. The only thing you really can do is make them as comfortable as possible until the body is able to fight the disease. Chicken pox is a viral infection that makes the person very uncomfortable, so the best thing to do is use a mixture of painkillers, calamine lotion, and oatmeal baths to keep them from wanting to itch the pox, which can cause scarring.

Chicken pox is a very contagious disease. It spreads rapidly, and once its telltale symptom, small red bumps all over the body, show up, there's little you can do but ride it out. Actually, someone who has been exposed to it becomes contagious several days before they show any symptoms at all, and so in the past it's been hopeless to even attempt to keep a child from getting the disease. There's simply no way of knowing who's sick and who's not until it's too late.

The biggest thing to do is keep the child as comfortable as possible. This is because scratching the pox can lead to scarring, and so it's best to prevent the itching. Continual painkillers, such as acetaminophen or tylenol is a good base at first. You'll also want to get a couple of bottles of calamine lotion for particularly bad itching, and there's always the trademark oatmeal bath, which will also help the skin feel better.

From here you just need to be patient. The disease usually lasts a week or so, at which point the pox will scab up. But how long are chicken pox contagious? They usually stop being contagious until around the time the scars show up, though to be safe you may want to wait until they disappear completely.

Chicken pox will make for a tough week, but they are not life threatening. It mostly means you'll need to pamper your child until they feel better.

Osteoarthritis is a disorder that involves loss of sinew between bone and the affected joints. It is a deteriorating from of arthritis arising at middle age due to wear and tear of joints. It is a normal condition associated with aging and affects almost everyone in severe or milder form depending on predisposing factors. These factors include obesity, trauma, overuse of joints, genetics, age, and gender etc. Women are more prone to this condition are compared to their male counterparts. The common osteoarthritis symptoms are experienced in joints such as the knee, spine, hip, and small joints of the hands and causes stiffness that increases with activity, pain, swelling and joint instability.

Changes in the articular cartilage are permanent. This means that one of the effective osteoarthritis treatments is exploring preventive measures in dealing with the thinning cartilage. In some instances, pain free conditions can be attained by a combination of osteoarthritis treatments. It is not possible to stop aging but it is vital to prevent it when it comes in an untimely and incapacitating manner.

One of the best ways to prevent this disorder is by engaging in moderate exercises aimed at strengthening the muscles should be adopted. Maintaining a healthy weight and eating a balanced diet will lessen undue stress on the joints as well as avoiding minor injuries. It is also advisable to use assistive devices such a walker or walking stick to reduce pressure on joints.

Personalized arthritis medications are available such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for reducing pain and for inflammation; acetaminophen and tramadol analgesic drugs are some of the most effective drugs on the market today. Stronger prescriptions are available for severe pain situations such as shots of corticosteroid. Besides medication there certain measures one can take to manage osteoarthritis symptoms. These include measures to reduce stress on joints, exercise programs, use of braces or shoe inserts, resting, etc. You can relieve pain and stiffness at home by use of ice packs or heating pads to reduce muscle spasms.

There are a number of systemic prescription drugs taken orally that are available for the treatment of nail fungus. The three most common are Diflucan, Sporanox and Lamisil. As with all health issues, it makes sense to seek the advice of a qualified physician before embarking on any treatment. It's also likely that you will be required to take regular blood toxicity tests to monitor liver and blood cell function throughout the course of your treatment.

The most common side effects that have been linked to oral prescription medication are diarrhea, digestion problems, nausea, and stomach pain. In addition, more serious cases of liver damage have been reported in some cases. The signs include jaundice, taste changes, dark urine, increased thirst, tingling at the extremities, fatigue, hair loss and changing stool color. Remember also to discuss with your doctor the possibility that taking a course of antifungal drugs could interfere with other medications that you are taking.

Given the negative symptoms associated with systemic therapies, many health professionals will recommend topical nail fungus cures. Prescription strength treatments are available - see the Curanail review over at Fungus Facts for example - as well as over the counter treatments, the most well known being Zetaclear and Funginix. These contain essential oils with antimicrobial qualities as their active ingredient and are marketed as 'natural therapies' with few known side effects.

You'll see a number of home remedy suggestions on the internet, but it is unlikely that these will be effective in all cases, in particular those that are relatively advanced. However, home remedies may play a role in prevention and assist in stopping cross infections to health nails. Ultimately the best 'home remedy' is exposure to the air and sunlight. If you live close to an ocean, a dip in the saltwater works wonders as a prevention and may even reverse early stages of the disease.

I've had gout for almost twenty years and it wasn't until the past four to five years that I finally got it under control. How did I accomplish this? I followed a friend's advice and started eating cherries. Cherries and gout therapy have gone hand in hand for many people for a long time, but I had never really considered it until my friend mentioned trying it. I was taking gout medication and it really was not reducing the number of gout attacks I was having so I figured why not? Now that it's been four to five years, why do I continue to use cherries to as one of my main gout treatments?

First of all, continue to use cherries because I believe they work. I can say that since I began using "cherry therapy" I have significantly reduced my flare ups from two to three times a month to once to twice a year. If you've ever had gout, you know that is something to get excited about.

Second, U.S. government studies at the Department of Agriculture found in 2003 that cherries can indeed reduce swelling. The USDA was trying to confirm a study done in California. What they found was that among test subjects, four common inflammation markers went down after the patients consumed bing cherries. Why is this important? The irritation of the uric acid crystals in the joints creates swelling and pain. Reducing the swelling, reduces the pain during an attack.

Third, cherries help reduce uric acid in the body. Since uric acid crystallization is what creates gout, reducing uric acid is vital to treating this disease. Separate studies showed vitamin C and potassium in cherries work both to lower uric acid and also to make uric acid more easy to excrete out of the body. Both these abilities help reduce uric acid and reduce the chance of crystallization.

I use cherries because since I began my attacks have declined dramatically. I attribute this to their ability to not only help reduce painful swelling, but also their ability to lower uric acid that creates the swelling in the first place. Give cherries a try. I don't think you'll regret it.

To successfully cure panic attacks, you first have to identify the triggers. If you are suffering from this condition, first find the trigger because everyone who suffers from it has a trigger although in most cases this varies from person to person. Many people suffer from panic attacks and most of these have not found conclusive ways of curing panic attacks, they therefore end in frustration and choose to find ways to live with it and lead hostage lives or walk around with many tablets to swallow whenever they see an attack coming.

To cure panic attacks, there are several relaxation techniques you will find beneficial. These methods focus on relaxing the mind in times when the attacks are very likely to occur therefore training you to avoid the attacks altogether. The best way to take charge of your life and avoid panic attacks is to identify the cause and learn to see what situations you get the attack then changer your behavior and reactions to counter the attacks. Meditation and self-hypnosis are excellent natural treatments to cure panic attacks because they clear the mind, reduce tension in muscles and lower the heart rate and therefore reduce the chances of panic attacks occurring.

A great way to control panic attacks is to include physical exercises in your daily routine and focus on positive thinking to avoid leading the mind to thoughts that trigger the attacks. Learn to breathe properly and in a controlled manner through practice and eat proper diet because in some instances, the attacks may be caused by poor health. Since stress is associated with panic attacks, avoid confrontations and other situations that are likely to worry or depress you. Curing panic attacks permanently is no easy task but faith and doing the right thing will definitely be helpful in long term countering of panic attacks.

Simple arm movements such as holding, grabbing, lifting etc. can be an extremely difficult task for a person who is plagued by tennis elbow. If you have tennis elbow, your arm muscles, ligaments and tendons are inflamed and that is what brings about this nagging pain. A lot of practitioners believe that it is due to the overuse of the arm that leads to the tearing of the muscle fibers and tendons along that particular area.

Small muscle tissues that surround the elbow joint and those of the carpi radialis brevis extensor (the muscles that connects your forearm to your wrist) are damaged and this is what leads to the development of this arm condition. The most common symptom of this arm injury is of course the severe pain. This shooting pain will be experienced all over your arm, especially if you start extending your elbow or moving your fingers.

In order to cure tennis elbow, many experts advise tennis elbow sufferers to undergo physical therapy that entails gentle arm stretching routines which will help release the tension along the area and improve the strength as well as endurance of the affected muscles and tendons. Physical therapy is a highly recommended tennis elbow treatment and many of those who have suffered and undergone such therapy can attest to the effectiveness of this method. Those who have tried this approach have found that in just a couple of weeks they are now able to utilize their arm normally.

Muscle redirection with the help of tennis elbow braces in accordance with deep tissue massage is also suggested in order to help cure tennis elbow. The use of braces will not only realign your muscles, it will also help prevent further tearing of the tendons and ligaments. Over the counter medications and icing the injured part are also some of the simple solutions that you can make use of.

Cinnamon is sometimes recommended as a spice that will lower blood sugar levels by an insulin-like effect. If true, the addition of cinnamon to your diet would be an easy way to keep a normal blood sugar level. The journal Diabetes Care in 2003 published a study that looked at 60 men and women with Type 2 diabetes. Half were give cinnamon and half were given a placebo to measure the effects of cinnamon on blood sugar levels. In this study cinnamon reduced blood sugar levels by nearly double-digit percentages. Other studies have had no success in duplicating the results of the first test and have called into question the use of cinnamon as an effective agent for blood sugar reduction.

“Effect of cinnamon on postprandial blood glucose, gastric emptying, and satiety in healthy subjects” by Joanna Hlebowicz, Gassan Darwiche, Ola Björgell and Lars-Olof Almér. This study looked at how cinnamon affected blood sugar levels after eating and why it may affect the level of sugar in the blood. Their hypothesis was that cinnamon caused a delay in gastric emptying, and “the rate of gastric emptying acts as a major factor in blood glucose homeostasis in normal subjects by controlling the delivery of carbohydrate to the small intestine.” What that means is that slowing down the rate at which carbohydrates are moved through the digestive tract, slows down the speed at which glucose from those carbohydrates is moved into the blood stream.

The jury is still out on the effectiveness of cinnamon in reducing blood sugar levels. However cinnamon is plentiful and easily purchased at most grocery stores or health food stores. If you are interested in trying cinnamon to achieve a normal blood sugar level, the cheap route makes the most sense for now. When the science is settled on the best use and actual effectiveness, confirmed and duplicated by many independent studies, a different route may then be apparent.

In some instances, these acids even get to the throat and even the mouth. This is not a disease as such but if it is prevalent or recurrent, it may cause complications to the throat or esophagus. The other names for this condition are acid indigestion, heartburn and GERD.

Research show that this condition is most common among infants aged less than 12 months and pregnant women in their last trimester of pregnancy. There are a number of ways to prevent this condition from being triggered among women and the first is to keep the head raised while sleeping. It is also important to take lots of water while during and after meals to assist in the process of digestion and keep the effects of acid to the minimum.

One very crucial way to combat acid reflux in women is to time meal times such that you will not go to bed immediately after eating and to eat your meals in small quantities more frequently. You should also try to minimize the consumption of foods with high acid contents especially milk products with lots of fat, fruits rich in citric acid, fatty foods and foods rich in sugar. The soar feeling that is created by the acid reflux can leave not only a bad sore throat but can also cause cancer of the esophagus.

Are you suffering from axillary hyperhidrosis or overly sweaty armpits? The first thing you need to realize is that, even though your condition can be very embarrassing and make you self conscious, you are not alone. Many people suffer right along with you; living in fear that whatever stop-gap measure they are trying to use to avoid those huge pit stains on their shirt and the stares that come along with them will fail before they make it home to replace the sweat pads or reapply the antiperspirant.

You may have been told that surgery was your only viable option. While that may be true for a very small minority of folks with this ailment, most people have been able to find relief with a non-surgical treatment option.

These non-surgical options range from the most simple solution of using an extra strength antiperspirant to the use of Botox injections to bring your underarm sweat under control. You may find that the ancient eastern art of acupuncture can give you relief. Perhaps you can find help from an herbalist who can help you restore your body's natural balance with herbs and natural compounds. You might even find relief through iontophoresis which is a mild shock treatment that actually temporarily disables the sweat glands.

Some of these options may sound interesting to you and some may not interest you at all. That's fine. The thing to take away from all of this is that there are other options out there that do not involve having to have surgery. While you may still have to end up going with the surgical option, at least now you know there is the possibility of not needing it.

The choice is completely up to you; you can explore your options with the help of a doctor or other trained medical professional who is familiar with the available therapies, or you can continue to put paper towels in your armpits and pile on the heavy deodorant for men to control the body odor.
