Trail Running Shoes – A Good Choice For Off Road Running

If you're a fitness enthusiast and you are looking to get into great shape for the summer, then trail running shoes are one of the hot sports trends at the moment. In fact trail running as a sport has taken off in a big way in recent years and is continuing to grow. This is generally because most people prefer to go into the great outdoors to exercise rather than being stuck in a gym running on a treadmill. It is far better to invest in a good pair of trail shoes if you are going to get involved in this pursuit, rather than opting for the cheapest product you can find.

The main features you should focus on primarily when you go shopping for a new pair of trail running shoes are the elements which protect your feet when running off road. Support and cushioning are crucial so that you will be able to deal with uneven tracks and the slippery conditions you'll encounter after rainfall. You should also aim to get shoes which offer some extra ankle support, as an accidental twisted ankle is not a good situation if you are in the middle of nowhere. Finally, it is advisable to look for a pair which can provide great protection to the soles of your feet, especially against the dangers of hidden rocks and other obstacles.

New Balance Men's MT461 Trail Runner,Black,10.5 DOnce you have spent some time considering the various safety aspects, it's time to move onto features such as the soles and how much grip the treads will give you when running off-road. The surfaces you use might be very diverse, perhaps grass one minute, and dirt track the next, or mud or wood chip trails. You need to make sure your shoes will be able to cope with all of these without letting you slip and injure yourself. Additional features might also sway your buying decision, and so you should investigate anything which sounds like it might help you in some way. A great example can be found in Brooks Cascadia 5 running shoes, which incorporate their 'ballistic rock shield' which is designed to dissipate the energy when you step on a sharp rock, so that the pressure is spread over the entire sole, rather than concentrating in a small area of your foot and causing pain or bruising.

The final quality to insist upon when you buy trail shoes is comfort. The main concern should be that they are moisture wicking, enabling you to keep your feet dry on very hard or long workouts. Ideally they will also be waterproof to a certain extent, especially keeping out grass dew, but if possible also repelling water if you run through a puddle. This is because one of the main causes of blisters is running when your feet are wet, especially if you have chosen the wrong type of socks. It's always best to wear specialist moisture wicking running socks rather than regular cotton ones. If you bear this in mind, and wear a combination of decent running socks and the best trail running shoes you can afford, you should have many happy years of running ahead of you.

Looking into Exercises for Posture

Most folks struggle a bit on an everyday basis to try as best they might to maintain good posture. The efforts to do so however, will certainly be rewarded by the achievment oh health benefits that could prove to be significant. Some of the potential rewads for the efforts might be back pain relief, less wear on the joints and circulation being considerably improved within the body. By the same token, poor posture unattended to can bring any number of negative consequences with it such as pain in various parts of the body, some difficulties related to breathing, the possibility of falling and whether one realizes it or not, the state of depression. The good news is though that there are positive alternatives to help improve things, one of the most important being exercises for posture.

Exercises for posture will often range from those directed at specific parts of the body such as the shoulders or the head, to those involving the entire body. One of the easier ones to get started with is that known as the chin glide. This is one that can be done fairly quickly and wherever the person may be at any particular time. Basically, one joins their teeth together and very slowly guides their head in a backwards motion. When they begin to feel tension and resistance they halt and then allow their shoulders to relax. They then hold like this for about 5 or 6 seconds, rest a few seconds and repeat the same procedure two or three more times.

Posture, Get It Straight Exercise DiscAnother fairly simple full body exercise requires a person to stand themselves in the corner of a room and space each foot about 24 inches from each wall. At this point the palms are placed flat on the walls and one allows themselves to regress the body into the corner. Using the hands, they push themselves back to an upright position. If they can do this 10 or 12 times, it will prove very beneficial.

Another great posture exercise is while standing on a surface that is rigid, one extends both arms up on each side of their head. They then proceed to slowly raise their left leg and hold it in the raised position for five seconds. Next, they repeat the process using the right one. Ten or twelve of these procedures will yield great results over time.

Of course, as with the onset of any new exercise routine or program, it is highly recommended that one consult their personal physician prior to getting started.

Doing Thai Yoga for Better Health

Tired of being out of shape?  One of the easiest and simplest things you can do to improve your health is stretching everyday. Some freehand calisthenics are beneficial, but a systemic method like Thai yoga would be even better.

Introducing Thai yoga

Don't misunderstand the term "yoga." You don't have to be a contortionist to do yoga. In fact, a lot of the exotic poses of you see in yoga books and videos is unnecessary whether for physical or spiritual objectives . Thai yoga is not about standing on your head or bending backwards and reaching for your foot. Rather it is a safe, simple set of exercises that gently help your body to better health.

Thai Yoga Vinyasa - a full 90min step by step Thai Massage sequenceThai yoga consists of postures that stretch, twist and bend the body in different ways. The objective is not to make your body super elastic, but to facilitate the flow of "prana" through invisible lines in the body. The exercises are balanced so energy is sent to the whole body during a routine, not just specific muscles and bones.

Benefits of Thai yoga exercise

The exercises have many benefits including: better poise, improved heart circulation, suppleness, better breathing, relaxation,  concentration and muscle and joint pain relief. But to reap these benefits, you must do the exercises correctly. It is best to watch a master demonstrate them in a class than to copy from a book or video.

What to expect from Thai yoga exercise

There are over a hundred postures of Thai yoga (as opposed to thousands in Indian yoga, many of which are impossible for ordinary people to do), but you need only learn about a dozen to do basic training. Each posture is aimed at a specific network of energy lines. You regulate your breathing, focus on your body and go through each stage of the pose while timing your breath with it. After executing a pose correctly, you return to the starting position.  You then repeat the pose several times and then move on to the next pose.

Studying Thai yoga

You can learn Thai yoga from a certified instructor, or directly from a Thai yoga master if you visit or live in Thailand. A few books also discuss the merits of this ancient practice, but not many. Before you do the exercises on your own, make sure you consult with your doctor, especially if you have had injuries or surgeries in the past. When you study, pay attention to your teacher's warnings and advice.

Regular practice of Thai yoga can help bring you closer to your goal of a healthier, fitter you. If you have dabbled with other types of yoga and feel they are not right for you, give Thai yoga a try.

How to Finally Get Rid of Those Love Handles

Many people finally get fed up with their muffin top, or love handles, and decide to do something about it. The first thing they often ask is how to get rid of love handles because this area tends to be prone to accumulating body fat.

One of the quickest ways to lose that belly bulge is by beginning a program of eating healthy foods which have been shown to fight belly fat. Some of the most effective fat burning foods include whole-grain products, low-fat dairy and monounsaturated fats. A healthy diet that includes plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables along with the fat fighting benefits of these other belly busting foods can help you to quickly lose that tummy.

While many people would be happy with simply getting rid of their love handles, others have even more ambitious goals. These people want to actually develop their abs and build a six pack, which is not as hard as one might think. These people are probably asking – How long does it take to get a six pack? This is a very good question and will depend on a number of factors.

The first thing that will determine how long it takes to develop six pack abs is the condition you are in when you start. The more belly fat you have to lose, the longer it will take; but, don’t let that discourage you. The good news is belly fat is usually the first thing to go when people begin to lose weight and besides, you can still be working on your abs while you are working on your weight loss as well.

Developing your abs into a six pack will require exercising and strengthening this area to sculpt and define the muscles. This will require a good deal of abdominal work and a discipline to watch what you eat. Remember, any fat accumulation in the stomach area will simply cover up all your hard work.

Insanity vs p90x? Which is better?

If you have long been an exercise fanatic, then you must have heard all about the insanity vs p90x. These two exercises have become famous for their intense work out routines that has made people lose pounds in such a short time. One would be curious to find out more about these two routines, and see which one is better. Read on below, and find out more about these work outs; one or the other might be appropriate for your fitness needs.

Insanity is a work-out routine designed to be accomplished within 60 days. It is broken into two levels, called phases, with the initial as the lesser intense and the next is called the “max” phase. During the lighter level, one can perform simpler work outs which will require some cardio and muscle boost. However, upon reaching the max phase, workouts will become even more powerful. One will concentrate on his core cardio and balance for about 6 days, which is called the Recovery Week. The routines included cardio, calisthenics, plyometrics and other sports drills. The whole Insanity routine includes 10 workouts and ranges from 45 minutes to an hour and fifteen minutes. One good thing about this is that no equipment is needed as one will be using their own body with throughout the whole routine.

Insanity however, requires greater physical preparation. This starts in a great intense pace, and even warm ups are very strict; hence its name insanity. Be careful, for you have to keep up throughout the whole exercise to have better results. Ensure that your muscles and joints are already flexible, for you will experience constant pounding within the whole process.

The p90x on the other hand, is a three month program. It is longer than the insanity work out, and is divided into three phases. At every phase, one can experience ea cool down period where one’s body can recuperate from the intense exercises experienced from the phase. This is to prevent the muscle confusion so that one can feel after each change of phase. Then p90x work out has many routines included, from resistance exercises to cardio as well as yoga. It is a complete set of routine that can be acquired for a longer time; a total body workout which will greatly benefit for those who are patient enough to lose weight at a gradual time.

Which is better between the two routines? Only one can decide—you. If you are in need of a faster, powerful workout that will help you to lose pounds in a little time, go for the intense workout. If you want to have a more dynamic, complete set of exercises for a longer time without the intensive strain, then choose p90x. Both workouts are effective to those who follow its whole routine obediently. Just make sure that your body is ready to undergo either of these routines.

Finding Your Hidden 6 Pack Abs

A great abdominal section or "abs" is something everybody wants to have but few are willing to really work for.  The reason they're so highly coveted is because they're so hard to get.  If you could just spray on 6 pack abs, nobody would be impressed with them.  To really get the dream abs most want, it takes sticking to some very strict weight loss tips and making sure you're reaching all of your fitness goals.

Here's what happens to most people who want those amazing abs.  They see some machine on late night TV promising 6 pack abs with just 5 minutes of workout each day.  That sounds like a good deal and who can't fit 5 minutes a day into their schedule.  The people using these machines look great and it seems like they're all having fun with not much effort.  When the contraption comes in the mail, you pull it out, put it together and do even more than 5 minutes on it, pat yourself on your back and head back to the couch to catch the second half of the game.  The next day you do your 5 minutes and you're convinced those abs are going to be bulging out in no time at all.

I think you know the rest of this story.  Within a couple of weeks, no 6 pack abs and the amazing miracle machine goes back into the closet to die a slow and boring death.  What you don't see on these commercials is the fine print that says "along with a sensible nutritional program."  You could get the worlds strongest abdominal muscles but never see them because they're covered in a layer of fat and you're not going to burn that fat away with 5 minutes of crunches each morning.

If you really want abs you can be proud of, you need to put yourself on a strict program that includes all the crunches, leg raises and obliques you do, but also a good amount of cardiovascular exercise to boost your caloric burn each day.  In addition to this, you need to reduce the amount of food you're eating.  When you've done all this and mixed in a fair amount of time, you'll finally start to see those abs poking through.  It's not a quick process and it's not as easy as the models on TV make it look.

The good news is, that cool contraption you bought off of the TV can still be used.  Most of them are not bad, but they have to be used right and in conjunction with the rest of your fitness plan.

Advantages Of Dumbbells

When it comes to the many cheap weight sets options that we now have available it is the classic dumbbell that is one of the best possible pieces of equipment we can own.

It is such a versatile piece of equipment that if we only had one piece of training equipment available to us then a set of dumbbell sets for sale from a cheap source would be the absolute best buy possible.

They are such a good tool because they allow such a good range of motion. We can perform any exercise that we can with a barbell but also many isolation exercises as well. With a greater range of movement we are able to put stress on different parts of the muscle and this ensures that we get a much better and more well rounded physique.

We can alter the movements slightly to change the stress on a certain point and this ensures that we get a very balanced body and a very strong set of muscles. We will find that with dumbbells we can perform many great exercises such as lateral raises as well as more conventional exercises such as dumbbell presses and shoulder presses.

Dumbbells are perfect for also ensuring that our tendons and ligaments are getting stronger along with our muscles, which is important for getting a well rounded and strong physique. Because they need more control to use effectively they will deliver very good results and we will certainly see vast improvements with our body if we use them on a regular basis.

And they are perfect for performing pre-exhaust routines where we will be able to really then work a muscle group hard. Imagine isolating your pecs doing a set of dumbbell flyes and then going on to perform the bench press. This can lead to some great results in a very short period of time.

How A Weight Lifting Belt Helps Prevent Injuries

If you’ve tweaked your back recently, one thing that you can do, if you have a doctor’s approval, to protect your back while you still go to the gym and lift, is to wear a weight lifting belt.  These belts will help your back to support itself and you will be at a lesser risk for injury by wearing the belt.  But how does the belt actually work?

Lifting belts work by utilizing something known to scientists as inter-abdominal pressure.  Normally your abdomen has a certain level of pressure in it.  Normally you can increase this pressure yourself by sucking in your stomach and clenching your abs.  What happens when you wear a belt is that the back of the belt keeps your back in strict alignment and doesn’t allow it to bow out backwards.  The front of the belt meanwhile, is tightened and pushes your insides together, increasing inter-abdominal pressure.

In short, what increased inter-abdominal pressure does is it allows your spine something to rest itself against.  This means the tiny stabilizer muscles in your back don’t have to work as hard and can relax, even if it’s just ever-so-slightly.  This keeps your back in alignment and makes sure that you most likely won’t tweak it again.

However, it is important to note that a belt will not prevent all injuries.  You will still have to maintain good form while you are lifting and engage your core.  If you don’t you can still get injured even with a belt on.  Or, even if you don’t get injured with a belt on, once you attempt to lift without one on you run and extremely high chance of getting injured.

Using a weight lifting belt is a great way to help protect your back  and help present injuries to it heal faster.  However, always make sure to use it right so you don’t end up getting even more injured down the road!

Who Would Want To Buy An Inversion Chair?

There are many advantages of inversion chairs.  That's why they have become more popular the last few years.  In this post, we will discuss some of these advantages, helping you to decide if an inversion chair is best for you - or if you would be better off going with a traditional inversion table.  In addition, we will points out a few disadvantages that you should also consider.

Advantages of Inversion Chairs

Along with all the other traditional advantages that come along with inversion therapy, there are a few specific advantages that you have if you decide to purchase an inversion chair vs table.  First of all, you have added stability - and this is the main reason why people purchase chairs instead of tables or gravity boots.  This stability allows people with some injuries that would normally prevent them from enjoying inversion therapy to enjoy it (obviously, please speak with your doctor before starting any such training regime).

In addition, By safely and securely strapping yourself into the chair you don't have to worry about any stress on your ankles or ligaments - stress that can make it very uncomfortable for some people when they start inverting.  Some people never get used to this stress, and for these people an inversion chair can be very effective.

Disadvantages of Inversion Chairs

While you do gain advantages in terms of stability with inversion chairs, you do lose some in terms of mobility.   Because you are in the chair you are not able to fully stretch your ligaments and joints like you can on an inversion table.  In fact, many people find gently swinging back and forth to be a very effective way to stretch their back, legs, and ligaments.

Summary

The bottom line is that if you are a healthy person, with the ability to support yourself from your ankles, then an inversion table is probably the better way to go.  However, for all those people who have specific back problems that would prevent them from doing so, then an inversion chair can still give them many of the advantages of inversion therapy.

Keep Workouts Fun

When some of us think of working out we think of the Rocky montage, and how hard it must have been to do what he did. Luckily that was only a movie, and regardless Sylvester Stallone was pumped up beyond belief so even if it was entirely real, he would have had no problem. One thing that discourages a lot of people from working out however is the fact that after a while it becomes no fun, or too difficult. One way to combat such a thought is to begin working out in your home in front of the television. One machine that offers the ability to do this at a low cost is the air climber aerobic stepper.

In particular the air climber offers users the ability to workout on a pocket of air, and includes many variations of the basic workouts led by Brenda Dygraf on the air climber dvd. If you are not particularly interested in this specific machine, you will find many more by simply browsing the web or visiting your local fitness store.

If you have picked out your exercise machine, and want a few tips to make it more enjoyable, here are some that I have picked up over the years. For starters, listening to music and being able to tap your foot or bob your head to the music has a rather profound effect. Additionally you may not want a traditional workout, and would prefer to play a game which is perfectly fine as well. Try playing basketball for one hour and tell me if you feel like your working out. While you might due to the sweat, the fact that it is fun to do means that it will not feel like a work out.

The air climber by brenda dygraf is my personal recommendation in that it may be more effective than other devices, as well as give you the freedom to workout in your home. If you do not think it is for you however I encourage you to find something that is, and put in the work to achieve results with said device.

Good Luck and Happy Exercising!

True Treadmills

True treadmills have been in business for the last 20 years.  They have developed a reputation for making high end machines that deliver solid results.  Consider them the Toyota's or the Honda's of the treadmill industry - minus the break pedals malfunctions.  Their style lines are clean and smooth and their sales approach is all about the machine and getting in shape with out giving into the typical 'gym rat' look that a lot of other manufactures fall victim of.

They have three primary product lines, the ES, Z and PS.  The ES line is the work horse of the group, it offers great longevity and functions.  The Z is more for a good shape and fit into your living space, they are small and more narrow allowing them to fit more easily into your apartment.  The PS is the most luxury line they offer, with this line you will have the most in functionality, and customizable workouts.

As with any treadmill, whether it's the used treadmills or the new True Treadmill, it will need some maintenance from you.  Periodically you will need to lube the running belt in order to keep the gears from overheating.  Naturally the manufacture recommends their own line of oil to do this.  You may be thinking this is just an unnecessary add-on, but in reality different oil will have different viscosity, so either use their oil or buy some that matches.

The warranty however, is non-transferable - so if you buy a used treadmill you will not be covered under the warranty.  If the dealer you bought the treadmill from goes out of business you will still be covered but you will need to work with the manufacture rather than through the dealer.  The warranty will not cover anything that goes wrong if you are not covering the preventative maintenance

Use Common Household Items as Exercise Equipment

Anyone who is a fan of kung-fu movies loves Jackie Chan. His talent is amazing and his ability to use anything as a weapon is inspiring. This ability to use anything for something that it was not meant for has many other applications as well. For the person who wants to build a home gym but has no money the home is full of multi-purpose tools that can work as exercise equipment.

I will discuss a few common house hold items that can double as great exercise equipment and help you get a gym quality workout.

The floor is my first most useful suggestion. Sounds stupid but on the floor with no equipment at all you can do push ups, hundreds of core exercises, hundreds of stretches, calisthenics, shoulder presses, squats, lunges and dozens of other exercises. You don’t even need weights for many of these.

A door frame. If you can find a good sturdy door frame in your house I would not be surprised. If you can do more than a couple finger pull ups on it at first I would be surprised. Start small and work up, use a chair (also fairly common). These are hard but they will get easier and they force you to use other small stabilizer muscles throughout your body.

As I already mentioned a chair. Use this for dips, to assist with pull ups, to make push ups harder or easier. Use a chair to help you balance when doing stretches or to assist when doing some leg exercises.

A towel. Keeps getting simpler. Use a towel to help you stretch. You can hook it on your toes and get a great hamstring stretch or you can pull it behind your back for a great tricep stretch. A towel can also be used for pull ups by wrapping it around something larger and holding both ends.

Anything of weight can be used to add resistance, like canned food or garden stones. Fill a back pack with heavy objects for a similar benefit to a weight vest. Be creative and you can make nearly anything into a great, effective piece of exercise equipment.

At-Home Fitness

Cardio exercises are great and not only that, they are also very enjoyable to follow. If you want to reap maximum benefits out of your cardio workouts, then it is best that you make your routines as fun as possible, so you look forward to doing it every single day.

There are so many good cardio exercises at home that you can do. However, the best cardio routines are those which can make your heart beat super fast. Here are some cardio exercises to do at home that you can try out for size.

Walking is an activity that you can easily fit into almost any type of lifestyle and can be performed by anyone, young and old alike. You can begin by walking around your garden or up and down the stairs and then finish it off with a twenty to thirty minute brisk walk around your neighborhood. You can ask your wife or a friend to go walking with you. Having someone to stroll along with can make this a truly enjoyable activity.

Biking is also an effective cardio exercise. If you happen to have a stationary bike at home, then the better. If not, then it is time to shake the rust off your old bike and return to the embrace of Mother Nature! Biking is great because it will build up your agility as well as your strength. This activity will also help you achieve your target heart rate and the best thing about this is that, with all the changing scenery in your backdrop, this activity is never going to be boring.

If you happen to have a pool in your backyard, then swimming is the exercise for you. Swimming is a full body workout and is actually considered safe because water will provide you with that natural resistance. In order to balance your workout, you can swim several laps using varying strokes to workout different muscle groups in your body.

Your Elliptical Machine Workout Plan

Elliptical machines on their own are already designed to give a you maximum workout in the shortest amount of time and with the lowest effort. Moreover, these trainers are also technologically advanced that they also provide the most comfort and least impact to your joints. Naturally, by using elliptical machines you already receive excellent cardiovascular and aerobic exercise and a full body workout. If you’re looking for an elliptical machine for sale and wondering if there was a way to really get even more out of your workout plan, there actually is. In order to achieve this, you have to be able to plan your workout well.

In order to plan your elliptical machine workout, you first have to determine your overall fitness level and how healthy you are for physical exercise. You also have to take into consideration any history of muscle or joint injuries and how recent or long ago they occurred. You also have to know for yourself if you are after losing weight, toning particular parts, or simply strengthening your muscles. And of course, you have to know how much time you can spend each workout session as well as how challenging you want each routine to be. An affordable elliptical machine is easy to find and they are excellent exercise tools, but a tool is just a tool unless you have a very good plan to make you maximize on the benefits that you can get out of the machine.

Having a carefully-planned workout program will make it easier for you to adhere to the plan. This is because you already know what to do beforehand and all you have to do is follow the plan. Also, by setting up a workout plan, you can make the machine grow with you. You can customize whether you would want to use it at beginner, intermediate or advanced levels by pre-programming the adjustable settings and scheduling specific settings and exercises. This will save you the time of having to think about what to do each time you plan to use your elliptical trainer, especially since the usual tendency is to feel lazy if there is no planned program beforehand.

If you have gone lazy, has suffered injury or have just simply forgotten to use elliptical machines altogether, you can still get back on track. So long as you create a good elliptical trainer workout plan, you can maximize on the benefits that you can get from elliptical trainers again and witness your fitness level improve.
