How to Practice Mindfulness for Dealing With Panic Attacks

People suffering from any kind of anxiety disorder like panic attacks tend to be citizen of present but residents of past and future. Generally, anxious people are absent minded, they have difficulty focusing on work and hand as they are usually busy worrying about past event or unseen future.

Mindfulness meditation is the most effective solution to keep your radar focused in present moment and controlling it from deviating in directions of unforeseeable and unchangeable. It is considered the best technique of meditation for beginners to start with. With continuous practice, you will be able to see content of your mind in the light of awareness. With awareness comes the power to release toxic thoughts and emotions.

When Panic Attacks: The New, Drug-Free Anxiety Therapy That Can Change Your LifeMindfulness meditation has its roots in Buddhist tradition. Though very difficult to practice at first, one can attain marvelous results from this practice by patience and persistence. Following tips will guide you how to practice mindfulness meditation in day-to-day life.

  • Contrarily to common notion of meditation, mindfulness meditation can be performed 24X7, with eyes open at any time of the day. For beginning, take any activity not demanding high degree of attention for example, gardening or dishing. While doing your chosen activity, be aware of all the physical movement involved in the task. Start noticing outside surroundings like sound of vessels, texture and color of dishes, sound of water falling from tap etc. Try to be aware of all sensory inputs while focused on work.
  • Thoughts are most likely to intrude in period of few seconds. Mind has the habit of wandering around nonsense and irrelevant issues like pending job at work, boss firing from the job, next installment for kid’s school etc. Be mindful, when it occurs to you that you have lost the awareness of present moment. Don’t regret about losing the track. You have acknowledged that you have lost the awareness, is as good as being mindful of your thoughts again. Don’t get upset or judge your thoughts, come back again to your activity with regained focus.
  • The point is not to judge what you are thinking, but to train your attention to fix itself in the present moment. Rather than crying over how many time thoughts take you away, see that, that many times you have succeeded bringing your focus on Now.

You can also practice mindfulness meditation while symptoms of panic attack start showing up. You can easily dilute the severity of attack by becoming fully present in the moment and observing physiological and emotional responses taking place. It is a very effective remedy to cure panic attacks from its roots by transcending thoughts and beliefs that makes you prone to anxiety and panic attacks in first place.

Different Types of Depression

Depression is a serious illness where a person will feel incredibly sad and has a bad reflection about his own functioning in society. They feel that nothing is important anymore and that they can not change their sadness anymore. Eventually if the depression is severe enough someone could try to kill themselves. The problem with depression patients is that most patients will not recognize that they are depressed and that is why family members should be fully aware of what the symptoms of a depression are.

We should also make a differentiation within types of depression as there are many. When you think about depression you probably think about a primary major depression where a person feels very sad and doesn't want to do anything. But another type of depression is called bipolar depression which is the same as manic depressive disorder. When you have a bipolar depression you have mood changes which could be changing from very sad to feeling incredibly good. The very sad feeling is the same feeling as seen in patients with primary depression but the manic episodes are a different thing. When a person has a manic episode he feels great and he believes he could conquer the world. Some people believe they are on a mission to save the world or to enlighten people because they are godlike themselves. Although this might sound a bit weird and maybe even funny, it is a dead serious problem because people are not behaving rational anymore. They could stop eating and sleeping because they feel great so why should they sleep and eat? They could also get in to fights and hitting on other women when they are married because they have no true control over themselves.

There is a difference between bipolar disorder 1 and 2. The main difference between them is that patients with bipolar disorder 1 are suffering from depressive episodes with manic states and patients with bipolar 2 have depressive episodes with hypo manic states. The difference between manic and hypo manic is that a hypo manic person does not have a full blown mania and is till functioning properly in society. Another not frequently seen diagnosis is the atypical bipolar disorder which is not a disorder on itself but happens when the person does not fit either a bipolar 1 or 2.

It is important to understand and recognize the difference because each type will have it's own treatment guidelines. If you have any more questions than please ask your doctor for advice.

Get Help Overcoming Depression

Chronic depression will become a problem for somewhere around forty percent of all adults. When you stop and think about it, that is an overwhelmingly large number to experience a problem that we almost never talk about. The good news is that overcoming depression is always possible.

Being depressed is not the mind or body's natural state - and it doesn't like the feeling. When a person begins to get some help for depression, the body will work with you because of this. Much like your finger doesn't like having a splinter and will work to push it outside of your body - your mind will work to push depression away. It is important to keep in mind that you are not the depression, rather the depression is merely a temporary foreign invader and will eventually be eradicated.

Many people who suffer from mild depression or situational depression are able to bounce back fairly quickly. Often this recovery can happen even without any type of professional help. Othertimes the depression becomes entrenched like a bad cold and requires outside assistance for you to overcome it. In no way does this make you crazy anymore than having bronchitis makes you a bad person. This type of thinking only serves to drive the splinter of depression deeper and stop you from getting the help you may need.

Mental health is as important as physical health is. Left untreated, depression can start to create a whole host of physical problems that you may not even associate with it. Often it makes it more difficult to sleep or makes you tired all the time. Depression can effect the amount of pain you feel in your body as well as how your body reacts to illnesses. If you find that your depression has become chronic, be good to yourself and talk to someone who can help.

Happiness is a State of Mind

Is it possible to think ourselves happy? With all the self-help programs, books, and strategies out there, the key to finding happiness could be as simple as just thinking about being happy.

Take a moment and consider what your inner voice is telling you on a daily basis. What expectation is your inner self setting up for your future and ask yourself if you truly believe what you’re hearing. Sometimes our own mind will sabotage our own efforts at finding happiness. Our mind is constantly telling us either we are or are not worthy of finding happiness in our lives. Learning to communicate with our inner self and convince it that we truly deserve to be happy is important in conditioning our future. As we condition our minds, we become more open to the possibility of happiness. Just as finding love is easier once we learn to love ourselves; the ability to be happy will be much easier once we learn to be happy with ourselves.

Many people are asking how to find happiness in life, yet they should be asking themselves if they truly feel they deserve to be happy. Think about the saying, change your mind, change your world. Surely this applies to the reality of being happy within the world we live. With all the things life throws at us, finding a way to think our way into happiness can be an amazing asset to have in our tool box.

However, thinking about happiness alone will not magically manifest a happy and care free life. With all the hype surrounding The Secret and how we can simply create abundance and anything we want by simply thinking about it, some people have the misconception that thinking about what we want is all there is to it. Thinking about what we want is important, but we must do the footwork necessary to put ourselves in the position to make all the things we want happen. But we will never find happiness if we can’t first get into a happiness state of mind. Once we’re thinking about happiness, we’ll be more open to the opportunities that put us in a place where happiness can find us.
