The Beaches of Nassau

Nassau offers cruisers plenty of options such as shopping, gambling and even historical sites such as Fort Fincastle and the Queen's Staircase but when it comes to the Bahamas its all about the white sand beaches and crystal clear blue water. Whether you are looking to go para-sailing for the first time or just relax under an umbrella with a frozen cocktail, Nassau has a beach for you. Below are a few of the most popular and most convenient beach options for cruise passengers.

Cabbage Beach
This is the most popular and therefor most crowded beach in Nassau mainly due to its location near the resorts on Paradise Island, including Atlantis. Cabbage Beach is also convenient for the masses of daily cruise visitors docked at Prince George Wharf and taxi drivers are quick to recommend this beach since it is the closest and they can load a van full of people paying per person. If crowds, jet skis, and hair braiders are your thing then this is the beach for you.

Compleat Guide to NassauCable Beach
Cable Beach is a great alternative to Cabbage Beach if you are looking for all the amenities such as water sports, lounge chairs, food and drinks without as much of a crowd. Cable Beach can still get crowded at times but it is a little more laid back than Cabbage. Look for a day pass at one of the resorts for access to loungers, umbrellas and resort pools. Passes should only run about $25 and a cab ride from the cruise ship is $10 a person.

Love Beach
Love Beach is often touted as the best place to snorkel in Nassau but the reef is actually almost a mile off shore so unless you are a great swimmer and have your own life vest I wouldn't recommend Love Beach for snorkeling. The beach is also a night time party spot for the locals so you may find yourself with a trashy beach on some days. Compass Point Resort is located adjacent to the beach and they sell day passes for $20. This is probably the best way to go if you still want to check out Love Beach on your next cruise.

Junkanoo Beach
If you are looking for the most convenient beach from the cruise ships and you don't want to pay for a taxi then Junkanoo is about a 15 minute walk from the ships. This isn't the best beach by far, but it offers a few places to eat and chairs can be rented for around $5. The money you save on cab fare can be used to buy a couple Bahama Mama drinks.

These are some of the beaches that are the most convenient for cruise passengers who may not have all day in Nassau. If you are on a cruise that has a longer stay in Nassau such as one of the 4 night cruises out of Jacksonville, FL ask your cab driver to take you to one of the more secluded beaches on the Southwestern part of the island. Not only is it possible to have the beach to yourself but this is some of the best seashell hunting on the island.

Tips for Shopping in Bangkok

Bangkok is one of the best known places for shopping and you may definitely want to grab some good products at affordable prices when you visit the place. This article gives some useful tips so that you can have an enjoyable shopping experience in Bangkok.

Plan your shopping timings

The most important tip to be remembered for shopping in Bangkok is that, the timing needs to be planned in advance or else you may land up in a mess due to excessive heat, traffic and other problems. You need to make up your mind first regarding the things you want to buy the most and decide on visiting the suitable places. Simply venturing around the town with hopes of finding the things of your choice, is not a wise thing to do. You can choose specific areas for shopping, for example, China town, Siam and other places.

Top 10 Bangkok (Eyewitness Top 10 Travel Guides)It is good to visit the markets in the evenings when it is cooler but make sure to avoid the rush hours, that is, between 5 to 6:30 or else you may get stuck in traffic for a long time. But in case, you are able to find time for shopping only in the morning, then moving around the air-conditioned malls is the best option for you.

Most of the shops in the city start at around 10o’clock in the morning and are open for about twelve hours or more than that. A number of shops are also open on Sundays to cater to the large number of tourists visiting the place on off days.

Check quality and compare prices before making a purchase

If you buy something from a shop without comparing the price and the quality with the other shops, you may end up regretting later. It is always a wise idea to look around the place and compare the prices of different shops before making the purchase. Another important tip to be remembered while shopping is that, you should not let the shopkeeper know that your are a tourist. Vendors tend to raise the prices of commodities in case of tourist customers.

If you are buying from pavements, make sure to check the quality of the product carefully as these places tend to sell goods at highly discounted rates which are often ‘rejects’ and hence highly questionable.

Bargaining

Except the branded shops of the shopping malls, any smaller shops are ideal places for bargaining in Bangkok. While bargaining, make your approach positive, that is, the willingness to buy should be visible from your expressions. Through efficient bargaining, you may end up buying good products at quite reasonable prices.

Safety on the street

While moving around the streets of Bangkok, you need to be extremely alert and careful about your belongings as pick-pocketing is not an uncommon thing in the place. Busy areas like market places are more prone to theft and pick-pocketing and it is advisable not to carry any expensive things while shopping.

Adhering to these simple tips will make your shopping experience in Bangkok a pleasant and memorable one.

Reasons to Visit Koh Phangan in Thailand

Koh Phangan in the Gulf of Thailand is the fifth biggest island of the Kingdom. Until a few years ago it was somewhat of a tourist backwater, attracting only backpackers and old Asia hands looking for a cheap bungalow on the beach. The backpacker vibe still exists on the island, but it also rubs shoulders with the party scene on the island and the growing high-end tourism.

Koh Phangan is just 12 km from the more famous island of Koh Samui. Although it doesn’t have its own airport, it is easy to get a flight from Koh Samui, Chumphon or Nakhon Si Thammarat to Bangkok and thus greatly reduce travel times.

Lonely Planet Discover Thailand (Full Color Country Travel Guide)The island is one of the most unspoiled in the Gulf. It has deliberately avoided the quick and unregulated expansion that has marred other tourist destinations in Thailand. It is also an island blessed with over 20 white sand beaches to choose from, each with their own character.

If you want to discover the party scene on Koh Phangan then the beaches to stay at are Ban Tai or Haad Rin. The former is home to the Half Moon Party and the Black Moon Culture Party and the later is the setting for the epic Full Moon party that attracts up to 30,000 party seekers.

There is also a growing live music scene on Koh Phangan. There is the local band ‘Job 2 Do’ that has had domestic chart success. They can sometimes be found giving a show at the Rasta Bar in Haad Yao. Then there is the Jam in Hin Kong and the Sound in Ban Tai which have regular live music nights.

For those seeking luxury accommodation and a stunning location, the best choice is Thong Nai Pan Noi which holds all 3 of Koh Phangan’s finest hotels – Rasananda, Santhiya and Panviman.

For those looking for the Thai side of the island the west coast of Koh Phangan, especially Srithanu, offers a glimpse into the workings of an island economy not dependent on tourism.

And finally, for those looking for that original hippy vibe on Koh Phangan, there are still a few inaccessible beaches without electricity that offer cheap no-frills bungalows on the beach. The best of these places are the historical Haad Sadet (visited by 3 Kings of Thailand) and Haad Yuan.

In Koh Phangan you can scuba dive, you can mountain bike and you can go mountain trekking. There’s wakeboarding, yachting and windsurfing. Many choose to study on Koh Phangan: Muay Thai and yoga are both popular. Many more choose to lie on the golden beach and just unwind. Whatever you are looking for Koh Phangan probably has it.

Get a Cheap Flight – Some Recommendations

The cost of flights has moved upwards by quite a lot in recent times, largely on account of higher gas prices. To help you with the escalating prices I'm going to list some recommendations which have helped me personally to save money whenever I’m flying out of the country.

Many people are experienced with the concept of secret hotel rooms and there is an identical service around for plane tickets. You specify a leaving date and also city together with your desired destination however you don’t get to find out the airline or even flight times til you have paid. The key reason why secret flights can be as much as 40% cheaper is that airlines can easily offload excess seats with no risk of undercutting their own flights.

Fly Cheap Airfare Secrets RevealedAny time you’re comparing a lot of flights it’s difficult to discover how long you have until the flight will be entirely booked up since it won’t say on the web site. Many sites permit buyers to book as many as 7 passengers in a booking so try to reserve the maximum they permit and watch if the price climbs upwards or they're saying there's no seats left.

A lot of people are arranging their own plane tickets nowadays largely since they believe it’s definitely gonna be cheaper than booking through a local travel agency. However if you are traveling to a common destination a travel company will be able to merge the flight and hotel room into one low price. I was looking at Sydney Hotels a short while ago and we ended up saving close to 50% simply by selecting the accommodation and flight combination.

It was once true that the only way to generate air miles was basically to take a lot of flights. Nevertheless you can now obtain points with many leading air carriers simply by signing up for their credit card. One example is European air carrier Air France gives you 19,000 miles for nothing simply for signing up with their credit card!

I really hope these guidelines can help the next time you’re hunting for a cheap flight.

Emphasis On Medical Coverage In Travel Insurance For Pensioners

Pensioners are expected to have health issues and that’s the reason why travel insurance for pensioners is putting emphasis on this specific travel insurance cover. Most travel insurance companies are offering comprehensive medical services coverage. This offering can really benefit pensioners because their concern about being hospitalized or seeking medical help during their travels will not be that big as they know that someone will take good care of them.

However, because the coverage is comprehensive, it contributes to the high premium costs, which sometimes stop pensioners when they are planning to purchase one. But, you need to know that this will offer many advantages, including saving money in the long run. So, don’t forget to avail this insurance policy before your travel.

Why Traveling without Insurance may Cost you MoreIf it’s your first time to travel, you need to know that medical fees abroad are higher and that it’s a smart decision to purchase comprehensive travel insurance for pensioners that you can rely on. To be able to make sure that your insurance policy is reliable, you should do your own research in finding the most reliable insurance company in your area.

You can also ask friends who have experienced purchasing such insurance policy. You can also ask for their assistance, like asking them what other features should be included in the best insurance policy. You can browse websites offering quotes and comparing prices of various insurance policies. Doing this is more appealing because the latter is hassle free and convenient, especially if you are busy doing other things.

All in all, choose an insurance policy that fits your needs by reading it carefully, including the rules and terms so that you will be able to know its ins and outs. More importantly, don’t treat it as an additional expense; instead think of it as an additional protection.

Holidays In The Maldives For Surfers

It was during the 1970s that people first started to hear about the Maldives as a nice place for a summer holiday. It was also during this time that surfing spots were discovered by those who first ventured to try out the waves here. However, not so many people who come to have their holidays in the Maldives do so just to surf. While a more obvious reason is its location and relative inaccessibility, perhaps the more pressing concern among surfers is that it may be beyond their budget. The Maldives does not exactly offer cheap holidays compared to other Asian surfing spots like Bali or Siargao.

Nevertheless, quite a number of surfers still gather their resources for a trip to the Maldives. They come here from all over the world to try out for themselves the fabled perfect six-foot tubes of the Maldivian waters. Compared to other surfing destinations, there are several surfing spots all over the archipelago that will match any skill level. In other countries, the waves are either too tame for advanced surfers or too difficult for beginners.

Surfing Maldives Wall Decal Removable Graphic (60"W x 40"H)Yet another reason why some surfers save up for a trip to the Maldives would be the pristine waters and pollution-free environment. In most popular surfing areas, especially those that are easily accessed, the number of crowds that come and go has resulted in land and water pollution. In contrast, the waters in the Maldives remain crystal clear due to strict government regulation of the tourism industry, its location, and relatively higher price range.

For those who want to ride the waves during their holidays in the Maldives, the best surfing spots are Colas, Lohl’s, Chickens, Pasta Point, Ninja’s, Honky’s, Jailbreaks, and Sultans. The summer months of April to October are the best time to go to the Maldives for surfing. In April to June, surfers can expect consistent swells. Surfing can still be enjoyed in July to October but surfers will have to deal with the chance of stormy or windy weather.

Travel in Style with a Travel Toiletry Bag

It is always best to be organized when traveling. Your trip will go more smoothly if you know where to find all your essential items when you need them. So on your next vacation, bring a travel toiletry bag for convenience. There is no reason to place your toothbrush and toothpaste randomly in your bag. Don't worry; a travel toiletry bag is not only functional, it is  stylish too.

When shopping for a travel toiletry bag, keep an eye out for those that come with free products. Razors and nail clippers are often included in these travel kits. You can keep the complimentary razor or nail clippers in the bag at all times and use it specifically for travel purposes.

Storage and Organization Hanging Cosmetics/Grooming BagAirport travel regulations now limit the amount of products in liquid, gel and/or cream form that a passenger can take on board. All products in these forms must be 100ml or less. In response to this new rule, toiletry bag manufacturers released bags that come with a set of small containers. In most cases, each of these bottles can hold up to 100ml worth of toiletries such as shampoo or toothpaste. When it comes to preparing your toiletry bag, these bottles will save you a lot of trouble.

If you are taking pills, then keep them inside your travel toiletry bag as well. This will make things easier for you because you will know where your medicine is the moment a need arises. Also, the only instance that you may miss them is when you forget to bring the entire kit too.  So if you are really forgetful, keep a list of all the things you need to bring on a trip and keep that sheet of paper stuck in a leather travel wallet.

These are some ways you can prepare your travel toiletry bag. This bag will make things much more convenient for you as you go places. If you choose the design of your travel toiletry bag carefully, it can reflect your personal style, too.
