Different Types Of Love Exist

We all hear a lot of talk about love, but sometimes we do not really stop and think about what love really is. Whether it is something that can be analyzed or just experienced, is not always clear. By any token, love is hard to explain, and if someone has not felt it, nearly impossible to convey in words.

True love is unconditional, and never ends. The love of a parent for his or her child, for instance, does not stop even if the child disappoints or does things of which the parent disapproves. Different types of love exist, although English has just one word for love. We use the same word to describe romantic love, family love and love for our friends or fellow man, although we know the distinction very well by the context in which it is said. Other languages describe love in several different words. When we say we love our child, for example, we know that it is a very different love than the way we love a wife, husband or girlfriend. Trying to define it in simple terms, however, is not easy.

There are many short love quotes that try to explain love, or cast some insight on it. A Malagasy Proverb says "Let your love be like the misty rains, coming softly, but flooding the river." That is a very understandable way to explain how we should love, and fits all different types of love. Another one of the short love quotes by Pedro Calderon says "When love is not madness, it is not love." That statement refers, of course, to romantic love.

Regardless of what kind of love we are discussing, we will never quite get into words exactly how love feels, and how it varies from person to person, and how they show love. Some people show they love someone by doing kind things for them, others write lovely poetry or songs to show their love. However it is expressed, we all need to know that we can love and are loved.
