Recent Advancements Made in Hockey Skates
There is a new technology coming out in hockey skates recently that warrants some attention. The hockey skate has remained relatively the same in the past ten years. Sure, it may have gotten a little bit lighter and the padding might be a bit more comfortable but all in all a hockey skate is still just a hockey skate. CCM came out with an updated roller hockey skate a few years back that added a few improvements that are so useful they should soon become staples across all the brands.
The roller hockey skate has made rapid improvements since its inception. It has gone from the disco-twirling giant four wheeled roller derby skate to the sleek ready-for-action inline hockey skate in only a matter of a few decades. Most skate companies have chosen to make improvements now only to the comfort and safety of the skate while CCM has taken a more functional approach. Two of CCM’s hockey skate advancements are so useful that you should find skates with them in your sports bag from now on: the lace lock and the star headed wheel bolt.
Hockey Skates with Lace Locks
Hockey skates need to be worn tight. The tighter the hockey skate the more protected your ankle is and the more mobility you will get. One of the main problems with hockey skates is their knack for loosening during the game. CCM has developed a locking mechanism for the laces of the skate that keep it from ever loosening without your consent. At the midpoint of the boot are two latches on either side of the hockey skate that you can loop your lace through. As you tighten the laces the latches will lock into place and will force the laces to keep their resistance.
Never Lose a Wheel Bolt
Inline hockey skates use a system of bolts, screws, wheels, and bearings to create the gliding feel of ice on surfaces like cement. Most hockey skate brands will use a simple bolt and screw that often falls out or gets loose, destroying the mobility of the skate and often causing havoc on the ice. CCM has developed an inline roller hockey skate that uses a star-headed bolt to better secure the wheels into place on the skate’s chassis. The teeth of the bolt head lock into place with exact matching imprints on the metal chassis so there is no danger of them accidentally unscrewing.
