What You Can Do to Help Earth

If you are like many people around the world you are thinking more about your impact on the environment and what you can do to help reduce the damage that your lifestyle produces on the earth. Unfortunately as the human population continues to grow, people will require more resources from the earth, unless our consumer habits change. The large scale waste, pollution and energy usage is by and large caused by the Westernized populations. In many cases, it is large companies, multi nationals in a variety of sectors that contribute to a lot of the waste.

Until masses of people alter their demands, large corporations will have no real and immediate motivation to change their policies and practices. So what can you do?

As great as it would be to switch your gas guzzlers into awesome eco friendly cars, the environment will need more of a change than buying better so-called “eco-goods,” although that is a start. A series of many changes will need to take place, including making some major changes to our consumer habits. One of the best ways to start doing this is to start buying at the local level, meaning buying goods and services from your local community. Not only will this help keep money in your local community, small businesses tend to be less hazardous to the environment. Starting a small green business can be a good way to help make a living for yourself while contributing valuably to your community. This can include businesses such as growing gardens for people, starting a compost wormery to build valuable soil, installing solar panels or water catchment systems, or a green cleaning company.
